It’s not because of the “number of Mexicans invading,” it’s because of the number of Spanish-speaking people already in the US and the fact that it’s a bigger language than even English.

I’m learning Spanish - for fun !
It’s easier than French & German & don’t even get me started about learning Russian - try pronouncing words with 5 consecutive consonants.

HURRAH!!!
Finally a person of the same mind set!
I’m all for a federal Law that states any ethnic language spoken in a public place, is a violation of the Patriot Act.
How do I know what they are planning…could be casing out my car and family getting ready for a burgulary…

May sound cold but it makes sense from a business perspective. By the way, you misspelled “feel” in your original question. Anyone else see the irony here?

I’d like to learn Spanish just because I’m missing out on a lot by not being able to communicate with a huge number of people in my country. I know that a lot of them would like to speak better English for the same reason! Learning a new language, ESPECIALLY as an adult, is not an easy or quick process. If you’re trying to learn a new language while working full time and taking care of kids, it’s going to take you more than a year and you will always have an accent. What’s worse is that if the native speakers of English are constantly telling you that you’re stupid and inferior for not being born speaking the language like they do, you’re probably going to lose your motivation to learn it. Who would want to spend so much time and energy to communicate with people who think they’re too good to talk to you? I hope that everyone who speaks English, lives near a Spanish-speaking community, and has even the slightest desire to teach will consider offering low-cost English lessons. The desire to learn is there. If the desire to learn Spanish was strong among speakers of English in the area, then low-cost Spanish classes could also be arranged. Give and take.

Why is it bad to learn another language that a large portion of the world speaks, when so many other countries are ahead of us when it comes to multilingual skills? “America will be destroyed”? Aren’t you getting a little dramatic? This is what people said in the late 19th, early 20th century when all the Irish, southern and Eastern Europeans immigrated to the U.S. America is an immigrant country, and while I support enforcing the law, it’s not Latin Americans who will destroy this country, it is bigots like you who alienate large portions of our population (including legal citizens) who will do it.

I don’t feel like I need to learn Spanish because of immigration. I would take lessons just to expand my horizons. Immigration is good for our country. ALL Americans have family who have came to this country in search of a better life. At the turn of the century, when my family came here from Ireland, they were considered the scum of the earth. Give immigrants a break. It’s OK to be proud of where your from and most assimilate into American culture anyway.

Who’s pointing a gun at your head? I doubt any Mexican immigrants are force feeding you Spanish vocabulary and grammar.
And why do you make it seem like we’re at war with Mexico?
“…Mexican immigrants invading”
“…before America is destroyed.”
A little extravagant, don’t you think?
First of all, learning a language is difficult. Especially a Germanic language like… hm, I don’t know, English? Have you ever tried learning German? Difficult shit, really.
I agree that if you are planning to live in a country, try to learn the native tongue. But, at the same time, give immigrants (in general, not just Mexicans) a fighting chance to learn. A lot of immigrants don’t have the immediate resources, money, or time to take classes or buy over-the-top, 20 CD/DVD English courses.
Spanish is spoken by 500 million people who are both native and non-native.
There are 32 million Spanish speakers in America alone.
Mexicans want ‘to come here so bad’ because they live in an impoverished country with a corrupt government. They know just as good as anyone that America has more opportunity for themselves and their family.
(Just to clarify, they don’t **** their country, just the system that runs it.)
Nobody is telling you that you must learn Spanish.
I live in Southern California (born and raised), I speak some Spanish, but hardly do I ever use it. If I do, it’s with friends or at small restaurants. I use English nearly 99% of the time.
Therefore, your fear of a Mexican invasion where they rip Americans of their ‘culture’ and make us learn Spanish has led me to believe that you are utterly delusional.
