   Chicano comes from Mechicano which is the Hispanicized way of saying “Mexica” which was the proper name of the Aztecs.
   A Chicano is a Mexican who is born in the United States (or raised most of their life in the US).
   Most Chicanos speak English. many are monolingual English speakers.
